Twenty-eight new positive cases, 808 persons in isolation or quarantine

Douglas County, Ore. – Douglas County health officials report, as of 12:00 pm, Thursday, February 18, 2021, there are twenty-eight people with new positive test results and one presumptive test result that has moved to positive with a positive test result to report since Wednesday’s noon case update.

The total number of cases (people with positive test results and presumptive) in Douglas County is now at 2,282. Currently, there are fourteen Douglas County COVID-19 patients that are being hospitalized, nine locally and five out-of-the-area.

Currently, DPHN is supporting 273 cases in isolation, as well as another 535 contacts in quarantine in Douglas County. Isolation is recommended for confirmed and presumptive cases, quarantine is recommended for contacts of confirmed or presumptive cases. Currently, staff is supporting 808 total contacts and cases in isolation or quarantine.

In a notice released on February 17, 2021, Roseburg Public Schools Superintendent, Jared Cordon announced that they were notified by DPHN and Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer, Douglas County Public Health Officer, of positive COVID-19 cases at Joseph Lane Middle School, Sunnyslope Elementary and Winchester Elementary.

Currently, DPHN, their epi-teams and community partners are supporting contacts and cases in isolation and quarantine for 25 school outbreaks, three long term care center outbreaks, and multiple local workplace outbreaks. Every single one of the 13 public school districts in Douglas County have reported a COVID outbreak. The school outbreaks are different than other outbreaks in the county, and represent a significant amount of staff time at all hours of the day from the epi-team leads, case investigators and contact tracers. The average contacts for each school outbreak is exponentially more than a usual case or workplace outbreak.

The State’s current two-week risk level count period started on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at 12:01 am, and will run through this Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 12:00 am. Our current State Mandated “High Risk” Level placement is effect through Thursday, February 25, 2021. The State will make a decision and announce their latest risk level movements on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. The next risk window is set to go into effect on Friday, February 26, 2021, and will run through Thursday, March 11, 2021.
