Woman charged with bias crime after allegedly beating man with a cane

Roseburg, Ore., — Friday, Septembers 16, officers with the Roseburg Police Department responded to a reported disturbance in the 2700 block of W Jay Avenue. Officers arrested Lindsay Peterson after she broke a cane over her victim’s head, spit on him, and barricaded herself in his bathroom. The victim told Lindsay to leave but she refused. Lindsay spit on two officers and a doctor prior to being lodged at Douglas County Corrections.

A person would receive the charge of a bias crime if that person Intentionally subjects another person to offensive physical contact because of the person’s perception of the other person’s race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or national origin according to ORS 166.155. Peterson was also charged with the following crimes;

Criminal Trespass in the First Degree
Aggravated Harassment X2
Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree
