Schools across Oregon on alert after social media posts threaten violence

A number of schools are on high alert after social media posts circulate threatening violence toward schools. Some schools around Oregon have called on law enforcement to investigate any possible threat to local schools.
On Twitter, the Lake Oswego Police tweeted a series of tweets regarding a situation Thursday.

In a following tweet, the Lake Oswego Police stated:
the LO Junior High School is no longer in “Secure” and are resuming normal activity. LOHS is still being searched. We are still asking that no one come to LOHS until we have completed our search and have given the all clear.

The Newberg School district also released a statement regarding the scare. The Newberg School District, who has faced a lot of scrutiny and have had threats of violence aimed at it’s board and leadership recently, took the threat seriously.
Today, we have been investigating some nationwide concerns about TikTok rumors regarding potential school threats for Friday. The Newberg-Dundee Police department has been involved, and we want to be clear that there are no credible and specific threats for Newberg Public Schools.We wanted to communicate so you know that we are aware and doing our due diligence on investigating for student and staff safety. We ask for your partnership and support. Parents and guardians
In Lane County;
the Lane County Sheriff’s Office is aware of recent threats that have been circulating nationwide on social media. The threats, although not specific or directed to our area, have been towards schools and are primarily being distributed on the social media platform TikTok.
All threats are taken very seriously. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is monitoring the information and will investigate any threats towards our schools or community. We are not currently aware of any direct or specific threats towards the schools or community in our area.
While the threats are vague and no particular school was targeted, school officials and law enforcement are taking the threats seriously.
